Townshend’s Police Caution
On 11 January 2003 the Daily Mail newspaper published an article linking an unnamed rock star with child pornography. Pete Townshend immediately issued a statement saying that it was him the article referred to, and that he had visited a site as research for a book he was writing. He stated he had informed the police and various child-protection agencies of his intentions. Two days later the police took away all Townshend’s computers for analysis but, after a lengthy investigation, found no evidence to convict. On 7 May he was told that he would face no charges, but he accepted a formal caution.
