Plant’s The Principle Of Moments

Following on from Pictures At Eleven’s success, Plant’s second solo album continued down a similar eclectic rock path. Plant refined its predecessor’s style by retaining the strongest elements of Pictures, but giving them a slightly more commercial bent (the single, ‘Big Log’, was a Top 20 hit on both sides of the Atlantic). Phil Collins would again drum for Plant and tour with him for the album, seeing Plant quickly proving that his solo success was no flash in the pan. This time Plant released his new album on his own Atlantic subsidiary, Es Paranza.

ARMS Benefit Show

On 20 September 1983 Jimmy Page made only his second public appearance since John Bonham’s death (the first was in May 1982, when he and Robert Plant joined Foreigner on stage for an encore). Playing at the ARMS (Action Research For Multiple Sclerosis) Benefit at the Royal Albert Hall, Page was one of the many musicians, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and The Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts, who staged a benefit concert for The Small Facesbass player Ronnie Lane, who suffered from the disease. The benefit was so successful in the UK that the musicians took the ARMS USA Tour across Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City from 28 November until 9 December.
