The main brains behind the modern soul spectacular that is Gnarls Barkley are Brian Burton (a.k.a. producer Danger Mouse) and hip hop underdog Thomas Callaway (a.k.a. Cee-Lo). Their debut single ‘Crazy’ reached No. 1 in no less than eight countries worldwide, and went Top 5 in a further 10. A smooth blend of soul (courtesy of Callaway’s booming vocal) and treated, dancefloor-friendly beats, the song proved irresistible enough to become the first ever download-only chart-topper in the UK.
