English conductor
Hogwood began his career as a harpsichord player, and was a founding member of the Early Music Consort in 1967. In 1973 he founded a period instrument orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music, with which he recorded the complete Mozart symphonies and two Mozart operas. He was director of music of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra in the US 1987–92, and was artistic director of the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston, 1986–2001.
