Personalities | Christina Aguilera | Twenty-First Century | Rock

(Vocals, b. 1980)

NYC native Aguilera has been making records since 1999, but singing since her very earliest years, inspired by the talents of the likes of Whitney Houston and Madonna. Her own vocal ability has long been the selling point of her talent, but her ‘blonde bombshell’ looks have not hindered her progress.

Breaking on to the scene with the single ‘Genie In A Bottle’, Aguilera’s overt sexuality was always evident. By the time of 2002’s ‘Dirrty’, a track that saw the singer virtually naked in the video, wrestling while covered in oil and/or sweat, there was little left to the public’s imagination. Subsequent magazine interviews even hinted at bisexuality, but many thought these comments to be a mere marketing ploy (she married music executive Jordan Bratman in 2005). She even went so far as to kiss Madonna onstage at the 2003 MTV awards. Such controversy aside, Aguilera has a powerful vocal range and a domineering style of delivery similar to and as high as Mariah Carey.
